Only 'Ten' Commandments... or more?
And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” “You shall have no other gods before me” … Ex. 20:1-3
This is the beginning of the 'Ten Commandments' in the Bible. Then again, how many commandments are there in this list; is it ten or more? It can really change your perspective when you learn that many Jews count these ‘ten’ differently, to a Hebrew speaker this list is probably known as the “the Ten Words” (Ex. 34:28). The first of these ten words (sayings) is God declaring ‘who’ He is. The important thing to learn here, is that obedience starts with Revelation rather than Determination. The difference between knowing ‘about’ and ‘knowing’ is massive! When we know Jesus, when we love Jesus, only then will we be enabled to effectively obey Him (John 14:15).
